I used this microphone last night at a DJ show I did in town. I usually use a Shure SM58 and have had no problems in the past, but I was looking for something new for a more affordable price. This mic feels and looks great, but the sounds is a little off. If I left my EQ settings at dead center, the mic was wayyyyy too bassy and boomy. I had to adjust my Low to about 9/10 o clock, my Mid to about 3 o clock, and my High to about 2 30. After that, the mic sounded basically JUST like the SM58. Very crisp, very clear, and no feedback or other distortion the whole night. All in all, I'm very satisfied with my purchase. I'm not going to be using the mic without a mixer ever, so it's not a huge deal that the sound needs to be tweaked like it was.

While it lacks some of the dynamics of some more expensive options out there, this mic remains a solid performer. A little tweak of the EQ will liven it up and make it sound closer to those other mics. I use this mic for background vocals and as a backup in case of trouble. This mic is friendlier to live environments than recorded. I don't know about longevity but even if I only get a year out of them, at this price, they are a bargain.

I bought one XM8500 for a portable PA system I am donating to a non-profit. It is a great mike and saves me a lot of money. I've used Sure SM58s before, but this time my money counts, and the XM can't be beat. Then I offered to donate another PA system to another non-profit, so mike choice was a no brainer on time two. I've got to stop providing PA systems!)
