I've had good success with this printer. It is very solid, delivers good results (image quality is better on higher end models)and it was easy to set up and get going. I even found the scanner quality to be of a high enough caliber to scan artwork. The only negative thing I can say about it is that it is HEAVY and that I wish the toner lasted a bit longer.

Our old Canon multifunction inject finally quit, and we replaced it with an Epson Workfoce 610. The Epson worked well, but with 4 school age kids, we found ourselves going through ink quickly, and the costs were mounting.
After a bit of research, we decided to go with a laser printer, and we were going to just go with a black and white, and keep the Epson for color use, but we ended up getting a great deal through Staples. This is our first Brother product, and I can say we are quite impressed. The chassis is built like a tank, and overall is very well put together. After 4 months of use, we are very pleased with this purchase. The quality of the prints are top-notch, and having approx 1500 sheets of printing before having to replace a cartridge is excellent. Also to note, I found some videos on Youtube about resetting the cartridges and refilling these for a very low cost. I've not done this yet, but I think I'll give it a try when the time comes.
This model comes network ready, and for those of you wondering what exactly that means, well, basically I plugged this into my D-Link Dir-655 wireless router, and after running through some fairly simple configurations, presto! I've got a wireless network printer! For those wondering if you should spend the extra cash on the wireless ready version, if you have a router with a USB port like the Dir-655 has, then you don't have to go that route. I won't lie, it helps to have a little bit of networking knowledge, but you seriously do not need to be an expert to get this working.
The scanning software is very good as well. It will scan directly to PDF, and will let you "build" a multi-page document, such as a manual (I've done this), in one shot. You just need to follow the steps...a bit tricky the first time, but then after that, it was a breeze.
Overall, there is nothing about this printer that we have not liked, and I will never go back to an inkjet after having this, and will most likely buy nothing but a Brother moving forward...we are just that pleased with this printer. It's a great printer for a family like ours with higher than normal printing needs, and I believe it would also serve a small office environment well.
I guess the only thing to note for those that still use FAX...this unit will not do that. I'd rather scan and email a PDF (I'm a "paperless" kind of person), but if that is a feature you need, I would expect the next model higher in this line with FAX capabilities to perform well.
